Why I Built GetThis

Hello, I'm Sawyer. Today, I'd like to share the story behind why I created an app called GetThis.

An Era of Multitasking, Yet Always Missing One Thing

Every day, I find myself juggling countless tasks. For most people today, multitasking isn't just a choice. It's a necessity. Between handling work, writing articles, driving the kids around, and remembering to pick up groceries on the way home, there's a lot to manage.

The problem? No matter how hard I tried to do everything 'well', I always ended up missing one or two things.

That's why I've used numerous note-taking apps. There were times I relied on Google Tasks, and for a long while, I was a heavy user of apps like Notion. While there are many excellent tools out there like Todoist or TickTick, I still felt a persistent gap that none could fill.

Why I built GetThis

"I wanted to write it down right now, but I couldn't"

The core issue was simple: I wanted to record ideas the very moment they came to me, but in reality, that was often impossible.

While driving
When a thought strikes while walking down the street
In the middle of another urgent task

In these moments, taking out my phone, opening an app, navigating through menus, finding the right task page, and finally typing it out... the process was just too cumbersome. And honestly, I often forgot to even check the tasks I had managed to record.

This frustration was always weighing on my mind.

"Could I just say it out loud?"

Then, one day, an idea hit me:

"If a task comes to mind, why can't I just say it?" That simple question was the beginning of GetThis.

GetThis is 'Voice-First' by Design

That's why GetThis was built as a voice-first app. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, if something comes to mind, you just open the app and start talking.

What happens next? GetThis takes care of the rest.

It organizes your to-dos.
It extracts shopping items into a list.

The user just needs to speak. Organizing and categorizing is the app's job.

To be honest, I'm the one using this app the most. And I have to say...it's incredibly convenient.I no longer hesitate to open a note app, and the days of saying "I'll write this down later" only to forget are gone.
